Olive Oil Lotion

What exactly are you looking at?  You are looking past a bottle of extra virgin olive oil to a representational amount of all the other lotions I have tried on my sensitive skin.

I was visiting my sister last month and she had a bottle of olive oil on her coffee table.  She was in the process of packing and moving and I thought it was misplaced from the kitchen packing.  She proceeded to tell me and show me what  a wonderful lotion it was on her skin.  It soaks right in and has zero additives.  Perfect!!!  She is very health conscious and had gotten as sick as I have at trying to find a lotion that left out chemicals.  I had heard stories of people using olive oil as a lotion  before but dismissed them.  I knew it was extremely beneficial in my cooking and have used it for years.  You know the term hindsight is 20/20?  Ignorance in this case is not bliss. I should have done my research when someone mentioned using it on their skin.  I guess timing is everything and apparently I was not receptive to the idea.   There is a plethora of information on the benefits of olive oil not only topically but in your diet on the internet.  Now, I know if I had bothered to research, it would have saved years of wasted money from trying countless lotions on my sensitive skin that still left me broken out and irritated.  What's done is done, but I only wish.....  I have been using olive oil for about a month now and it is amazing.  It is just what I was looking for!  I hope that you too have been introduced to the benefits of olive oil.  If not I encourage you to do a bit of research on your own...that is, if you are receptive to the idea :) It truly is amazing!

Good Evening Amy, I am so pleased you have discovered Olive oil as it is such a useful oil.....great in your food which in turn aids the skin. Marvellous to put on your skin, because olive oil is made up of crush olives and nothing more. It is also brilliant for the hair. When I was 10 years old my friend Maria, who was Cypriot, introduced me to Olive oil for the hair. I put olive oil on my hair in the morning, leave it on for a couple of hours, then wash my hair. I have very thick hair and it leaves my hair soft and silky. I also use it as a hand and cuticle lotion....it is an amazing oil. Even at it's most expensive, it is cheaper than moisturisers which are bought over the counter. Well done for introducing all your friends to the uses of Olive Oil.
Have a lovely evening.
Best Wishes
Daphne

What about residual greasiness Amy? I'm thinking that if I rubbed it into my hands I wouldn't be able to pick up my knitting for hours -- or have I got it wrong?

Thank you Chasity for you comment and your enthusiasm :)
Daphne, thank you for the additional tips on olive oil usage. I appreciate them very much :)
Rose, I too worried about my skin being oily or sticky especially on my hands. To my amazement a very light coating of oil soaks in very quickly and if you keep rubbing your hands together for a moment longer after the oil is messaged into the skin your hands are oil and sticky free. If I do get a bit too much I simply message the oil into my forearms as well as my hands. I use it most often after bathing on my body, and after washing my hands. I feel that this is optimum for the oil soaking in and works very well. I hope this helps :)

Have a wonderful day each and every one of you :)

Hi Amy,

I have used olive oil for years now as a night time lotion. I have a shower and apply just before hopping into my bed. It leaves my skin so soft...During the day I use sorbelene cream/lotion, also good for skin :)

As my hair is curly, I also use a tiny bit of olive oil to enhance my curls, works wonders on the dry ends.
