Busy Work

Hello!  I have been off of the computer a bit for the past several days working on busy work here at home.  I have been doing the finish work on several sets of dish cloths that will be gifts for Christmas.
I have been enjoying as many days as I can while we still have gorgeous color in the trees.  Each morning as I step out on the porch I check the tree's and enjoy the beautiful colors of nature.  I never get tired of seeing the beautiful fall leaves.
In our quilt beehive we are currently working on a quilt project where we exchange fabrics each month.  I am changing the way I will be making the quilt that we will be using the fabrics in and have two very large stacks of these 1 1/2" x 8 1/2" strips.  Between talking to one of my quilting friends and looking at a quilting magazine I came up with another quilt idea to use the strips.  I cut 61/2" x 8 1/2" black rectangles and joined one of the colored strips to both long sides of the rectangles.  I then laid out the blocks on the floor and turned every other one to make a basket weave type of design.
This is the quilt top all joined together!  I absolutely love all the color in this quilt but plenty of black for a good eye stop to appreciate all the colors.  I have been working on another top that I thought was for my friend for her birthday, I struggled with this because it just didn't fit her style.  After making this top I knew immediately who this was for!  This quilt is my friends style completely.  She will be very surprised when she receives it.  She loves color as much as I do and this is a perfect oversize to use on the sofa when cuddling with her sweet little ones.  I plan on quilting this on my  machine using variegated primary colored thread.  I will be searching through the quilting designs at  free motion quilting for some quilting design ideas.  Leah has so many wonderful quilting designs and video tutorials on her site that it makes it a joy to try new quilting ideas.  I hope to have this quilted and bound before Thanksgiving.  I plan on using a nice bright color for the binding and will or course post one more picture before it goes to it's new home :)

Hi Amy, I love the design you came up with. Sometimes that's the hardest part, but your design really draws the eye to each of the different colored fabric strips. It'll be a beautiful quilt when it's all done. And I love the dish cloths. I'm sure the recipient will as well. Have a great day!
